Serotonin Necklace...

I just love it when a jeweler finds a clever way to introduce some kind of meaning and symbolism into their work. This Scientist turned Artist, Molecular Muse, has chosen to, in her words "commemorate molecules that both have a pleasing aesthetic quality as well as symbolic meaning." This makes me think about the visionary researcher Masaru Emoto who wrote about the transformational properties that language, music, thought, ideas (and other things) have on water. His research shows that water is literally transformed on a molecular level by these things and theorizes that because our bodies are made up of 70% water, what we think, listen to, say etc. have the power to alter us. Beautiful! You can check out her work at molecularmuse.etsy.com

Upcycled beauties

So I was nosing around etsy this afternoon in light of my recent urge to search for things beautiful and forgotten and stumbled upon a very thoughtful shop. Talk about paying attention to what is around you! The artist lives in Kansas City, Kansas and manages a small operation that clears out the left over junk from foreclosed and bank owned properties. I was totally amazed and shocked that on any given month he accumulates up to 5000 lbs of material to be taken off to the dump. So in an effort to lessen his impact on the environment and give new life to things we use, abuse and discard, he creates beautiful one of a kind pieces from electronic components. Things like computers, fax machines, etc. This particular pair of earrings are made from the leftover pieces of a remote control. We need more people in the world who are so considerate. Bravo!
